JWST Crash with a micrometeoroid
The James Webb Space Telescope |
What exactly happened?
The James Webb Space Telescope was hit by a micrometeoroid between May 22 and 24. Engineers have been called to see how this can be repaired and also how to avoid such incidents in the later future. What’s most shocking about it is that a recent picture about it shows that the mirror is seriously damaged. This is a setback for NASA and Here’s what NASA has to say about it.
NASA’s reply to the setback
NASA earlier said that the impact was a minor one and that there was nothing to worry about. But the aforesaid picture falsified that. NASA says that there are dust particles moving around in space at high speeds that might also affect the telescope. The micrometeoroid has hit a very important part of the mirror of the telescope. Analysis and management are still on. NASA also posted a blog for this here.
